Paul Gascoigne in the news
Gazza
not in Celebrity Big Brother house January 3, 2010 Paul Gascoigne will not be entering the Celebrity Big Brother house. There had been
speculation that the former England midfielder and Kettering Town manager was to be part of a star-studded line-up for the
final series of the Channel 4 programme. But despite claims that Channel 4 were prepared
to provide him with round-the-clock psychological assistance, Gazza's name does not feature in the final line-up. Fellow
former footballer Vinnie Jones will be going into the house, along with cage fighter Alex Reid, singer Dane Bowers,
ex-Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss and actress Stephanie Beacham. American actor Stephen Baldwin,
rapper Lady Sovereign, Ronnie Wood's ex-girlfriend Ekaterina Ivanova, singer Sisqo, model Nicola T, and singer/producer
Basshunter are also to appear in the house. However, there are reports that two places are being saved for later arrivals
- so perhaps Gascoigne may yet make an appearance!
Gazza in new booze fear after rift over
son
December 27, 2009 The People: Fallen
soccer legend Paul Gascoigne is in despair after failing to see son Regan over Christmas. Gazza
hoped ex-wife Sheryl, 43, would let him deliver a quad bike as a surprise gift for the lad, 12. But
the blonde mum of three did not return his calls - and the former Newcastle and England star's family fear he will hit
the booze hard again. Paul's sister Lindsay, 34, told pals: "He is at his wit's end. "Paul
is is drinking because of this. He really wants to spend some time with his lad but Sheryl won't take his calls and keeps
changing her number." One friend said troubled Gazza, 42, had to be stopped from jumping into
a taxi to wait outside Sheryl's Hertfordshire home in the hope of seeing Regan. Click here for full story
Simon Barnes: Hope starts to run out for fallen
genius December 21, 2009 I
felt one of those uncomfortable lurchings of the heart as I stumbled over a small item of news. You may have missed it, it
didn’t rate major coverage. It lacks the zing of revelation. Paul Gascoigne was fined for being drunk and disorderly,
that’s all. Fallen off the wagon for the millionth time.
A man of a billion good intentions: a man whose reforms have always been outnumbered — by one — by his slippings-up.
Gascoigne gave his genius to his sport and had nothing left over, absolutely nothing whatsoever, to help him through that
stuff called life. It’s all very well to speak the truth, to acknowledge that to people like Gascoigne, there
really is no answer. It’s all very well to brush a manly tear and wait for whatever grotesque and — for once the
word will be appropriate — tragic conclusion awaits in this terrible story. But life shouldn’t be like that. And
that’s all I can come up with: the useless notion that life should arrange things better for people such as Gascoigne.

Drunk Paul Gascoigne is arrested
after 2am row with police December 17, 2009 Paul Gascoigne was arrested early yesterday
after a furious row with police in the street. The
troubled soccer legend was said to be drunk and disorderly near his home. Officers tried to warn ex-Spurs, Lazio and Newcastle ace Gazza, 42, that he faced arrest for being abusive
and urged him to go back indoors. But he is said to have
continued his rant and was taken to Newcastle police station at around 2.15am. It is understood he was given a fixed penalty fine of £80 and held until he was sober enough to be sent
home. A police source said: "If he'd been in
his own home we would have just warned him about his conduct and moved on. "But he was on the street and being loud and abusive at two in the morning.” Click here to read full story in The Mirror
My Gazza hell ride
December 17, 2009
A
fan told yesterday how he was thumped by boozed-up Paul Gascoigne after giving him a lift - before the footie legend was nicked
trying to get into the wrong house. Tony Hamilton said Gazza acted "like Jekyll and Hyde"
as he swigged a litre bottle of gin on the terrifying ride. Jobless Tony, 36, spotted
the former Toon ace alone at the Double Diner takeaway in Jesmond, Newcastle. The
father of two said: "He was wearing a bicycle helmet and carrying some bags. I could smell the booze. "He pulled out the gin and gulped about a quarter of it." Gazza, 42, accused bystanders of stealing
keys to his flat, then calmed down and apologised for being "paranoid". Tony
said: "He gave me a cuddle and kissed my cheek. "He
went to pay for his food and pulled out a massive roll of notes - there must have been £20,000 to £30,000. I helped
him pick loads up off the floor. "He couldn't ride his bike so I offered him a lift."
Gazza told Tony he was staying with his dad five miles away in Dunston. "He
said, 'I'll sit in the back because I'm Mr Gascoigne'. "He
was dribbling and started saying strange things. He said, 'I'm going to be the next Newcastle manager'. "He grabbed the steering wheel. He was hitting me on the shoulder and slapping the back of my head as I was
driving. It was terrifying. "When we found his dad's street he grabbed my keys.
He said they were his and I wanted to pinch everything. "I phoned the police and they got my keys back."

Ricky Whittle held over 'assault' on Gazza snapper November 28,
2009 Strictly Come Dancing star Ricky Whittle has been released on bail after
allegedly running over a photographer in his car. The Hollyoaks actor was in custody
for ten hours as he was questioned by police on suspicion of assault following the incident in Liverpool city
centre.
Whittle, 29, is a favourite to win the BBC's Strictly competition. It is believed Whittle's Dodge Ram pick-up truck may have struck photographer Steve Farrel, 34. Paramedics were called to the scene, where Farrel declined treatment, but he later went to hospital to be treated
for minor injuries before being discharged. Farrel was previously involved in an incident involving
footballer Paul Gascoigne four years ago. Click here for full story

Gazza's fury at ex-wife's sex 'lies' October 14, 2009 The Sun: Paul Gascoigne yesterday angrily rejected claims by ex-wife Sheryl
that he would insist on sex ten times a DAY - even if she didn't want it. The former England soccer star, 42, told pals: "What rubbish. "She's only saying these things to sell her book and make money." A friend said: "He's furious with her for saying these things." Sheryl, 44, was promoting Stronger: My Life Surviving Gazza. She did not call him a rapist as she consented to the sex - as it was "better than him
hitting me" - but now sees it as a form of sexual abuse. She
said: "Paul used to force himself on me. I'd say 'No!' but he wouldn't stop. "Ten times a day was normal for him. "When he came home I knew the first thing on his mind would be to have sex with me - but it was better
than him hitting me." Click here for full story
Paul Gascoigne's torments go beyond football
October 13, 2009
The Times:
Every time a tale of Paul Gascoigne’s disintegration hits the newspapers, the point is made that the game could,
and should, have done more to help him. So the story of how Newcastle United brought Gazza into their academy
this year deserves to be told, if only to make it clear that this unfolding tragedy is far more complex than could be halted
simply by getting him to pull on his boots and keeping him busy. Residing in the North East, Gazza was invited back
to his old club this year by Peter Beardsley. A team-mate of Gazza for club and country, Beardsley now runs the club’s
youth system. This could have been an arrangement that worked well for everyone — a purpose for Gazza, perhaps
the world’s most restless individual, a man for whom sitting still is agony, with the added fulfilment of seeing kids’
eyes light up every time he walked on to a training pitch. He has talked often enough of getting back into the game,
and here was an opportunity to do so among friends, while close to his roots. The signs were promising as Gascoigne
took up the invitation to turn up ad hoc. “It was the first good news we’d heard about him in years,” one
former England team-mate said. There was talk that these might become more formal, regular visits. What an uplifting
story that would have been to write, and to read, with Gascoigne finding some stability in his life for the first time in
years. But then I probed further. This unexpected burst of sunshine turned out to be all too fleeting. It transpires
that Gascoigne has not been back to take up Beardsley’s offer since the end of last season. The door remains open but
no one at Newcastle knows if, or when, Gazza might walk back in. Click here for full story

Paul Gascoigne offered £100K
to go on the last Celebrity Big Brother
September 27, 2009 Troubled former football star Paul
Gascoigne is being lined up to appear on Celebrity Big Brother. Channel 4 bosses have
made alcoholic Gazza the number one target for the next series of the reality TV show, which starts in January. And they are offering him £100,000 to sign up as a housemate in a spectacular final run of the show. But friends
are warning Gazza, 42, that three weeks in the BB house - where cameras would follow his every move - is the last thing he
needs as he battles alcohol addiction and mental illness. Just yesterday there were reports that
he got through more than 40 cans of Stella Artois in 12 hours at a hotel and said he wanted to die. Click here for full story

a TV shrink’s mind test. The England football legend was told he was not mentally strong enough to enter
the jungle after a session on a psychologist’s couch. But troubled Gazza, who is fighting booze and drug
addictions, depression and obsessive compulsive disorder, has begged for a second chance. He claimed he was forced to take
the test while reeling from the death of his hero, ex-England manager Sir Bobby Robson, and the bombshell that his beloved
mum Carol, 65, has cancer. Insiders say the producers and the show’s fellow Geordie presenters Ant and
Dec, both 33, are desperate to drop Gazza into the reality TV jungle. Click here for full story

Gazza delights blind girl's family
September 5, 2009 Troubled Geordie hero Paul Gascoigne made amends for not turning up to
a charity gig by putting in a personal appearance and donating cash and extra special gifts. The ex-Toon star had been due to appear at ‘An Evening with Paul Gascoigne’ at the Clock pub in Hebburn,
but pulled out at the last minute. The night was intended to raise funds for treatment for seven-month-old Faith Dodds, who
was born blind. More than 200 tickets had been sold for the bash, only for Landlord Norman Scott
to be told Gazza had flown to Marbella the day before he had been due to appear, as revealed in the Newcastle Chronicle. But after seeing the story the England midfield player went to the pub yesterday on his return to England and asked
to see Faith’s family. When they arrived he handed over £500 in cash, a specially
chosen Braille card, a signed Miss Britain sash and a necklace which had been blessed by the Pope.

Paul Gascoigne pulls out of charity fundraisers
September 4, 2009
Troubled soccer
hero Gazza has pulled out of dozens of charity fundraisers, saying he needs to avoid pubs. The
ex-Toon and England ace had been lined-up to appear at a string of bars and clubs across the region in the coming weeks. But instead, he has reportedly jetted off to Spain and his representatives have confirmed he will not attend any
of them. Agent Kenneth Shepherd claims organisers were told a week ago Gazza was going to pull
out. He added: “Paul had not signed a contract to commit to anything with anyone. He did
not realise they were in drinking environments and when he found out that is where they were, he told the organiser he did
not want to do them.” The news has crushed those who had bought tickets for the shows, many
of which were being staged to raise cash for good causes.

Teenagers binge drink because adults think it is cool and exciting
September 1, 2009
I don't think Britons needed a bunch
of think-tank eggheads to inform us our teenagers are the developed world's most accomplished binge drinkers.
Idle study of any bus shelter or recreation ground around dusk is perfectly illustrative of the fact. It's
patently clear the main reason for alcohol abuse in Britain is that we live in an entrenched drinking culture with deep historical
roots, where every social occasion is lubricated with booze, and where the ability to drink like a maniac is viewed as heroic.
Only in Britain would characters such as Oliver Reed, Jeffrey Bernard and Paul Gascoigne become far more celebrated
for being blotto than for their talent.
I can't think of a single British institution, from
sixth-form to university to the average British workplace, where your peers won't like and trust you more for the ability
to knock back a few bevvies.
In short, adult Britons think that drinking is cool, exciting and newsworthy, with
the inevitable result that their children do, too.

Paul Gascoigne tipped for jungle again August 27, 2009 Paul Gascoigne may still appear on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! this year, it has been claimed. Reports in May suggested that the troubled ex-footballer had been axed from the lineup after
failing a psychiatric test. However, Gascoigne has now told producers that he is on the road to
recovery and will be monitored over the next three months before a final decision is made over his involvement, according
to the Daily Star. A source said: "He is really confident he can handle the pressure
of the show. He thinks it is the perfect way to demonstrate to the world he is on the mend." Gascoigne
has fought public battles with alcohol and depression in the past. Last year, he was sectioned twice under the Mental Health
Act. The insider added: "It's great news he feels well enough to take on something like
I'm A Celeb. But we will not be taking any chances."

No more hits for Brown
August
27, 2009 Disgraced singer Chris Brown is big news
over here after being sentenced for beating up his pop star girlfriend Rihanna The coward was given 180 days' community
labour after his sickening assault.
If you think domestic violence is a big no-no in the UK, it's
utterly despised here in the States.
They reckon that's why Paul Gascoigne was never able to see out his career
in the US - because he beat up his missus, Sheryl.
But Gazza was still able to play in the UK after that shocking
incident at Gleneagles in 1996.
Had he been American it would have been an instant career-ender.
Let's hope it is exactly that for brutal thug Brown.

Gazza's tears for great Sir Bobby
August 1, 2009
A stunned Paul Gascoigne fought back tears as he led tributes to Sir Bobby Robson, one of the game’s
best-loved figures.
“Bobby was like my second dad. I can’t describe how much he meant to me. I’m numb,”
Gazza, 42, said.
He also said that he met Robson last on Sunday at a charity rematch against Germany when more than 33,000
fans turned up at Newcastle’s St James’ Park to salute cancer-stricken Sir Bobby.
The 76-year-old in turn tipped his hat to them as he was pushed on to the pitch in a wheelchair.
Gazza said: “He kept himself alive for the game. I’m going to miss him so badly.”

| Gazza with Alan Shearer at St James' Park |
Give Shearer Toon
job, says Gazza
July 27, 2009
Alan Shearer is the man best suited to
manage Newcastle United Football Club, according to Toon legend Paul Gascoigne.
He spoke candidly following England's 3-2 friendly
win at St James' Park on Sunday night, when they settled the score against old Italia 90 rivals Germany.
Shearer also broke his silence on the matter,
saying that everyone - including himself - was 'in limbo' over the failure to appoint a new manager at Newcastle.
The
club has just days to make a decision before the start of the new season.
Gazza said: "It's unbelievable that people
in the club don't know what's happening.
"They should appoint Alan Shearer as manager now and get it sorted out."

England to beat Germany 3-2 in front of 33,000 fans at St James' Park.

the match raised money for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Gascoigne, who looked in good shape, said: “He is known throughout
the world for what he’s achieved as a manager, a player and a man.
"To see him turn up – I was so excited. There was a lump in
my throat.”

July 25, 2009
It's the love scene that didn't bear thinking
about, but fallen football star Paul Gascoigne and TV star Anne Robinson revealed the moment they almost hooked up in
a gymnasium.
Gazza reveals he almost cracked on to the acid-tongued TV host in the gymnasium
when he appeared on her Sporting Heroes special of The Weakest Link this weekend.
Fellow reformed alcoholic Robinson starts the pair's on-screen flirt when she
starts: "You are quite skinny, are you fit?"
To which the fallen football star replies: "I'm fit as...
I did have the chance once and I turned you down. I'm mad!"
Stunned Robinson teases back: "I didn't know I had the chance. I would have
been off that treadmill really fast."
To which Gascoigne replies: "You should have seen how quick I pedalled when
I saw you, darling."

Gazza to play in charity game
July 14, 2009
Paul Gascoigne has agreed to play in a charity football match
to raise money for Sir Bobby Robson's cancer charity.
Former Newcastle United boss Sir Bobby, who is fighting cancer for the fifth time, will
be honoured when players from his Italia 90 England side play West Germany in a rematch of the famous semi-final in Turin,
which West Germany won on penalties.
Players including Gascoigne, Peter Beardsley, Peter Shilton and Lothar Matthaus have signed
up for the game at St James Park on July 26.
Funds raised will help The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation develop a new cancer
trials research centre at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, which the 76-year-old said would be his legacy to the North-east.

Lampard: Gazza woke me at 3am - to ask about Antartica!
July 13, 2009
Chelsea star Frank Lampard has revealed how Paul Gascoigne once woke him at 3am to ask about a TV show on Antartica's climate
change.
In an interview in which Lampard said he rated Wayne Rooney the best footballer he had played with, the midfielder said:
"I love all the wit and banter even though I'm still not the biggest fun around the training ground because I'm kind of serious
about my work.
"I try to get on with everyone but I love someone who is bubbly and will get involved in every section of the dressing
room.
"Gazza was buzzing everywhere. It's a feeling I'll never forget. Characters like him and Wayne Rooney bring a lot more
to the team than their evident ability."

Gazza's medical bills in phone-tap case
July 10, 2009
Details of medical bills for Paul Gascoigne were among the messages on PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor's
phone tapped by the News of the World, it has been claimed.
The Guardian has claimed that the Sunday tabloid paid £1m to settle legal cases which threatened to reveal the extent of
the illegal methods used to get stories.
The paper paid Taylor more than £700,000 in damages and costs to settle without a public hearing.
Messages collected from Taylor's phone are reported to have referred to the medical bills incurred by Gascoigne, who
had an operation on his neck just weeks before taking over as manager of Kettering Town in October 2005.

| Paul Gascoigne is helped off the train by Jimmy 'Five Bellies' Gardner |
Fresh health fears over Gascoigne
June 4, 2009
This is the picture that has sparked fresh fears over Paul Gascoigne’s health.
The former football star was supposed to be in Gateshead to publicise a soccer event.
But instead he was spotted stumbling off a train at Newcastle Central Station, helped by his childhood friend Jimmy ‘Five
Bellies’ Gardner.
Gascoigne swore off the booze six months ago fearing he would drink himself to death.
But the drink demons that have plagued the Gateshead-born star appeared to have returned yesterday when he staggered out
of first class carriage barely able to walk.
Shocked passengers watched as Gazza, 42, clung-on to his friend for support before slumping on to a bench.
He sat there for around five minutes until Jimmy, 46, hauled him to his feet and led him to a waiting limo.
Gazza was apparently heard slurring: “I feel sick.”
